RIGHT TO INFORMATION (ACT)
Background
The Right to Information Act was enacted by the Indian Parliament in 2005 and was implemented on the 15th of June, 2005. Under this Act, every Indian citizen has the right to secure access to any information in connection to public interest, information that is under the control of public authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in the delivery of public services. It thus follows that all Indian educational institutions established in accordance to law made by the Parliament, or by State Legislature, or by the notification of appropriate Government authority, or partially or wholly funded by the Government shall come within the purview of this Act. As per UGC guidelines and the rules of the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, this College has implemented the Right to Information Act.
How to Apply
1. The concerned person may either type or write the application by hand by mentioning at the top “APPLICATION UNDER RTI ACT 2005”.
2. There is no prescribed pro-forma for the application and it can be emailed but preferably hand-written.
3. Can be written either in English or Bengali.
4. Application has to be addressed to the Public Information Officer, BUT NO NAME SHALL BE MENTIONED.
5. Government RTI fee has to be attached in the form of IPO/DD.
6. At the end of the application it is mandatory to mention that the concerned person is an Indian citizen.
