While urban colleges and universities often have established placement cells, their rural counter parts often lack necessary resources and expertise to provide career guidance. However, the importance of career counselling in rural areas cannot be underestimated as it opens up opportunities and empowers students to make informed decisions about their future. The career counselling cell in Government General Degree College, Mangalkote established with the interest to offer career guidance to young minds and helping them to understand their strength. The cell undertake various activities to train students in various areas like communication skills, decision making etc. As the college is located in rural belt and most of the students are first generational learners, the career counselling cell provide information regarding various job opportunities and sensitize students through various seminars, webinars.
Through career counselling cell, the college aims to prepare its students not just academically but also make them well aware of current demands in the job market.
Objective of Career Counselling Cell
The career counselling cell organizes seminar to guide students to plan their career, help them to choose right career path by providing them guidance and information on various career options. The career counselling cell of this college has a whatsapp group which gives regular updates to students about various job opportunities, about different workshops and training programs.
Seminar on different exam like NET/SET, research opportunities and funding have been organized by career counselling cell in collaboration with department of Sociology. The career counselling cell have also organized a webinar on career opportunities in NGO sector in collaboration with department of Sociology. A seminar on preparation for competitive examination have been also organized by the career counseling cell. Apart for that, seminars on start-up funding, micro finance and self-help group have been organized. Seminars on decision making, time management have been organized to make the students ready for their professional life.
The college regularly arranges classes to prepare the students for WBCS, UPSC and other competitive examination. This college has a dedicated cell which arrange regular classes for competitive examination and communicative English.
