The Kanyashree Club of Government General Degree College, Mangalkote was formed on 28th April 2017 as per the initiative taken by Government of West Bengal, stating the participation of all girl students of the college who avail Kanyashree scholarship, to be active members of the Kanyashreeclub with the involvement of a Nodal Lady Teacher appointed from the faculties to be in-charge of all club activities.
From time to time, on various occasions, programs are organized to celebrate or discuss social issues and problems to create awareness among the students. Some of these are like celebrating AnnualKanyashree Day, where students participate in quiz competition, cultural activities like song and dance competition andKanyashree message writing competition. Other club activities involve spreading awareness on eradication of child marriage, environment-friendly clean-green college campus by planting trees, watering plants, placing dustbins within the college campus, menstrual health and hygiene,creating dengue awarenessthrough posters and wall-magazines, discussing the significance of women empowerment and emancipation, electoral literacy for first-time voters, celebrating International Youth Day on Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary by speaking on youth problems and Vivekananda’s perspective on society, presentations on feminism, women’s movement, gender discrimination, gender sensitization, are being discussed with all the members of the club so that they become well-informed citizens who canthen, actively try to solve these issues in their own surroundings, making the KanyashreePrakalpa successful in the development of society.
Hence through these small steps of social actions and schemes, initiated by Government of West Bengal, larger outcomes will be reached, where girl-child education will prosper and transform the society into a better place to live.
