The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) was set up by Government General Degree College, Mangalkote in January 2023, in accordance with the UGC ‘Guidelines for Scheme of Equal Opportunity Centre for Colleges XII Plan (2012-2017). The Constitution of India, in Articles 14-18, provide for the equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters of education, employment opportunity, equality before law and equal protection of the laws, irrespective of gender, socio-economic background, class, caste, place of residence, place of birth and language. Discrimination against any person on the grounds of race, religion, caste, class, gender or any kind of physical disability is a gross violation of human rights and basic human dignity. The UGC recommended that all universities and HEIs in India follow these guidelines to improve educational opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The major objectives of the EOC of GGDC, Mangalkote are:
- To promote equality of opportunity for all, irrespective of any physical or psychological limitation.
- To spread awareness about the basic principles of Human Rights as considered by the United Nations.
- To organize awareness camps, sensitization seminars and webinars that seek to promote acceptance of diversity and non-discriminative environment for all.
- To adopt the UGC guidelines that promote anti-discriminatory, inclusive and informative treatment to all stakeholders in Higher Educational Institutes.
- To take appropriate steps in case of any violation of basic rights take place.
